This should not make me feel so bad. I mean, out of all the people who commented, only one was a jerk about it, right? And some people are actually defending my objections to the theory, so that should make it better, right?

Except it doesn't. I don't know why, but thinking about that nasty response--series of responses, actually--to what I thought was a perfectly civil, "What's the basis for this?" question makes my chest feel tight. I'm angry, but only sort of; mostly I'm wondering if I said something that came out so far from right that I deserve to have someone treating me like I'm stupid and misconstruing my purpose.

Okay, newsflash: I KNOW who is and is not dead, okay? I am in no wise unclear about this. When I ask how canon it is that A took on B's identity, I'm not implying that that's really B there. I know it's A. I just want to know if someone explicitly referred to him as B when I wasn't paying attention. Actually, I DO have an alternative explanation for why A is wearing B's armor (dude...custom-tailored plate armor is expensive--if someone exactly my size died, I'd wear theirs) and has hair cut more like B's (to highlight the resemblance). This explanation does NOT involve resurrecting anyone. It's just based on the unlikeliness of A being able to impersonate B successfully from the moment of B's death, when A and B haven't met in years. It didn't occur to me that A would do that when playing, and when I saw it everywhere in fic, it surprised me, so I thought about it, and as it happens I decided I didn't like it much.

I'm not stupid just because I take the same facts and draw different conclusions. I'm not stupid just because I didn't think of it that way. I'm not stupid just because I think that it would never work, and that there's someone there who would think of a different way. I'm not stupid just because I wanted to know what facts, exactly, I had to make fit into my theory. I'm not STUPID, dammit!

And no, A impersonating B is not canon. It's supported by canon, and on the surface is the simplest explanation for canon, but Occam's Razor doesn't apply in imperial politics, and it's not the only explanation. It's like--oh, say, it's like saying that R.A.B. is Regulus A. Black: it's probably the authorial intent, there's no reason it can't be true, and most people believe it's true, but it's still not canon, and you don't have to make it that way.

I still don't know why this makes me feel so bad. Maybe it's because of being talked to like I'm stupid. I hate people thinking I'm stupid.
