cygna_hime: Xion is in ur fandom, queerin ur text (Xion Queering the Text)
So! In honor of National Poetry Month, and my own frustration with the fact that I can't readily mix poetry with fandom otherwise, I have invented a meme:

Fandom Poetry Meme
Name a fandom, character, pairing, or other fandom-specific noun in the comments, and I will dig up a poem I associate with him/her/it/them.

OR

Post a poem in the comments, and I'll write a drabble around it.

Then post to your own journal so there can be more poetry! Poetry poetry poetry!
cygna_hime: Xion is in ur fandom, queerin ur text (Xion Queering the Text)
Yoinked from syvia.

Give me an AU and I'll write you a short scene from it.

SHORT scene. Really. I've got a billion and three AUs as it is. Any kind of AU -- the what-if kind, the crossover kind, the "and then they are PIRATES" kind, whatever. Fandoms include KH, various Final Fantasies, about as much children's fantasy as you can shake a stick at, Harry Potter, CardCaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon, Discworld, Tolkien, classical literature/history/mythology, at least a bit of the Matter of Britain, DC comics (particularly JLI characters and Batgirls), Marvel comics (Runaways and classic Avengers), and no doubt many things you know I like but I've forgotten to list.
cygna_hime: (Default)
The first TEN people to comment in this post get to request that I write a drabble OR doodle of any pairing/gen friendship. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level.* (Feel free to modify exactly what's being requested according to your skills.)

*Or, you know, not. I can't exactly make you. But it would be cool.
cygna_hime: (Default)
I really, really need to learn how to be productive. Story is just not behaving itself; it feels like I'm never in the right mood AND the right place at the same time. *sigh* But I'll get through it! I totally will! (Also, I have way, way, waaaaay more ideas than I have time to write them. *sadface*)

So, a meme from Tuna. Give me a character, and I will tell you:

1. What would your character kill for? What would they die for?
2. What would they refuse to do under any circumstances? Why?
3. What do they dream about? [Either literal or figurative, specify please.]
4. What’s their biggest fear?
5. What single object would they be most hard pressed to part with? Why?
6. What is their fondest memory?
7. What is their worst memory?
8. What or who was were their most significant influence? Expound.
9. What do they believe makes a successful life?
10. What makes them laugh?
11. What are their religious views?
12. What is their greatest strength?
13. Do they have a fatal flaw? If so, what is it?
14. Who is the most important person in their life?
15. If they died, who would miss them most? How would they die?

Your result for Which fantasy writer are you?...

Ursula K Le Guin (b. 1929)

I should be so lucky! )

cygna_hime: (Default)
Excellent weekend made up for the failtastic week, so now I am quite cheerful. But overheated. Rawr ninja summer has pounced upon us without warning, and it is suck.

But! I am generally a happy bunny, distracted yet again by worldbuilding for the high fantasy game I'm going to run next semester (wheeeeeeee Tolkientheft is best!), so have a meme, stolen from Mith.

NAME A FANDOM (or ficverse) AND I'LL TELL YOU:

01. The first character I fell in love with:
02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now:
05. The character I would shag anytime:
07. The character I'd slap:
13. Who are my 3 favorite characters.
15. What are my 3 favorite pairings.
17. Which character you're most like.
a. The coolest thing about the canon:
b. The lamest thing about the canon:
c. My guiltiest pleasure in this fandom:
d. What story I wish I could read (or art I wish I could see):
e. What story I wish I had written/still want to write (or art, respectively):
cygna_hime: (Default)
Because I too am bored.

Your result for The Commonly Confused Words Test...

English Genius

You did so extremely well, even I can't find a word to describe your excellence! You have the uncommon intelligence necessary to understand things that most people don't. You have an extensive vocabulary, and you're not afraid to use it properly! Way to go!

Thank you so much for taking my test. I hope you enjoyed it!

Count the surprised people: oh, look, no one. Gee, imagine that.

Also. I, um, wrote smut. Again. Kaz totally made me do it! She said, "I have the plotbunny, but it needs smut, and I can't write smut," and I, fool that I am, said, "That's a pretty awesome plotbunny that needs to exist," and then I wrote it. It's over at [livejournal.com profile] swan_songs, and is either het or slash, depending on whether you count the bits involved (het) or the characters involved (slash). Yes, I wrote "Character X is randomly in a body of the opposite sex" fic. I should just grab a list of cliches from somewhere and start adding them to KH fandom, which needs more cliches. They have, like, Mpreg, and that's it. Sex pollen! Bodyswapping! Genderbender! Amnesia! Turning into animals! Zombies! I demand a higher class of crack!

So, what cliches do you guys really love? Be honest!

I was *going* to go to the library, get a book I might be interested in for my French paper, and leave, all nice and organized. But...they were having a book sale in the antechamber. With lots of books for very very cheap. As in, I now have thirteen new books for the low low price of $6.50.

Mostly classical books--some plays, some poetry, some guide-to-the-above. Yum. *strange* But! There is no such thing as knowing too much about Greek tragedy! At least, I do not think so.

And now, time for Cygna is Procrastinating Theater!

Give me a "Five Things" title, and I'll make you a list...or maybe write you some drabbles, depending.

By which I mean, give me something to run to when thinking of things to say in Japanese about my hometown gets too boring. Meme from [livejournal.com profile] etrangere.

The Hypothetical AU Meme: Take any one of the fandoms you know I write in, and give me a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, superhero AU, Ancient Rome, etc). I will then explain what story from your chosen fandom I would write for your chosen type of AU.

You Are 12% Girly

Um... you're a guy, right? If not, you're the most boyish girl in the world.

And for you, that's probably the ultimate compliment.

No. Not really. I'm a girl who doesn't like shopping and who more or less successfully resists the beauty cult foisted upon women in today's society. Why the fuck would dying my hair make me more girly? Or having a ridiculous number of beauty products that have no actual purpose? Or getting a fake tan? What the fuck are you on? How stupid do you have to be to buy into the idea that feminine necessarily equals fake?

So yeah, after looking at the questions I do consider a low score a compliment, because the only things it measures are things I would rather eat my own eyes than become.

REAL GIRLS ARE REAL, NOT ARTIFICIAL, GODDAMMIT!

[livejournal.com profile] cup_ramen_chaos did this one, and I couldn't resist taking some time out of my busy schedule to mock the doofbrainier segments of KH fandom. And yes, doofbrainier is a word. You just haven't heard of it yet.

Like so much of KH fandom, it's unintentionally funny. )
cygna_hime: (Default)
Or maybe it's just that [livejournal.com profile] etrangere and [livejournal.com profile] laurus_nobilis have the best memes.

Come up with the craziest theory you can think of for any of my fandoms (ridiculous crossover theories a bonus) I know about, and I will explain why it makes perfect sense and is in fact probably true.

Warning: plotbunnies may result.
cygna_hime: (Default)
Is it really a surprise that I'm posting a meme instead? Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] etrangere. And yes, I'm being deliberately sneaky. I promise that I didn't dig into the obscure book fandoms.

Summarize 10 of your fandoms in one sentence, then see who on your friends' list can guess each fandom.

1. One, Two, Three, Four, can I have a little more? Five, Six, Seven-Eight-Nine-Ten, I love you. Doctor Who--guessed by [livejournal.com profile] elihice, [livejournal.com profile] laurus_nobilis, [livejournal.com profile] cup_ramen_chaos, [livejournal.com profile] misura and [livejournal.com profile] gyllespi.

2. Across worlds, through doors of darkness and light, the least predictable thing is the heart. Kingdom Hearts--guessed by [livejournal.com profile] cup_ramen_chaos.

3. A guy with gravity-defying hair and trouble letting himself get close to people fights silver-haired guys in black leather with the aid of, among others, a woman with a kind smile and unusual genetic heritage and their motley crew of geeks and goons. Stargate:Atlantis, which successfully fooled all of you. Mostly because I've been playing around with the idea of an SGA/FFVII crossover, so I went crazy making it confusing.

4. Despite six companions, sea and wind and time, grail, and lost prince, the only way the wars end is by silver's crystal light. Sailor Moon--guessed by [livejournal.com profile] dkellis and [livejournal.com profile] svz_insanity.

5. Book of darkness, book of light, did they do right? Young Wizards--guessed by [livejournal.com profile] gyllespi.

6. A world of illusion, of silence, of dream, of fire, of void--and over all forever go sun and moon and star. CardCaptor Sakura--guessed by [livejournal.com profile] dkellis, [livejournal.com profile] misura, and [livejournal.com profile] laurus_nobilis.

7. Render unto Caesar (Empire-builder that he is) the deserts of Caesar (Even you, child? he asks at the end), but render unto the gods nothing at all, for it isn't worth it for revenge. Final Fantasy XII--guessed by [livejournal.com profile] mariagoner.

8. Universes come and go (mostly go, these days), but it seems that the heroes they birthed will go on forever, even when it seems the story has gone on without them. DC Comics--guessed by [livejournal.com profile] dkellis.

9. Rider chases walker, who bears the thing that will destroy him by millimeters, the burden no one else can lift, and the sword that was lost returns in the hand of the heir to the destruction of the one on the black horse. Lord of the Rings--guessed by [livejournal.com profile] dkellis, [livejournal.com profile] mariagoner, [livejournal.com profile] gyllespi, [livejournal.com profile] elihice, [livejournal.com profile] cup_ramen_chaos, [livejournal.com profile] misura, and [livejournal.com profile] laurus_nobilis.

10. On the day he turned eleven, he found out about another world of whose existence he had never dreamed, and through years, battles, friends found and lost and found again (there is returning, even at the last), he became a timeless hero to save both worlds from the dark. The Dark is Rising, which, after pretending to be both #4 and #9, managed to evade detection. Like I said, these plot elements are wash-and-wear.

Comments are locked, so you can all have a turn, and I'll tally up points. You can try more than once, if you want.

I enjoy messing with your expectations.

So the final scores:

[livejournal.com profile] dkellis--4 points.
[livejournal.com profile] laurus_nobilis--3 points.
[livejournal.com profile] misura--3 points.
[livejournal.com profile] gyllespi--3 points.
[livejournal.com profile] cup_ramen_chaos--3 points.
[livejournal.com profile] mariagoner--2 points.
[livejournal.com profile] elihice--2 points.
[livejournal.com profile] svz_insanity--1 point.

Guys, everyone's saying the same thing, which means I was being much too misleading, so: 3 is NOT FFVII, and 10 is NOT Harry Potter. Expand your horizons. In fact, neither of those fandoms are on this list.

Huh. Okay, I'm being *too* obscure, so...*ninja-modifies clues!* Now with slightly more obvious.

Final hint, because I like feeling like Clow Reed and dribbling out bits of information: on this list are two video games, two television shows, three anime/manga/graphic novels/comics, and three books.

As regards fic...I'm currently 15 pages and 6000 words into a Kingdom Hearts oneshot. *headdesk* Oh, brain, why must you hate me so? I mean, I personally think that it's turning out to be some of the best writing I've done lately, certainly the most solid piece of any length, and I'm having all kinds of fun writing it, but...it's gen, so no one will read it, and the established-relationship slash pairing that decided to show up is hideously unpopular, so no one will read it, and it's a one-shot, so no one will read it, and it's not like I even like this fandom! (Present company excepted, of course.)

But. I've been reading too many comics or something, because I thought, "What KH fandom needs is more old-school crack, where people go to parallel universes and meet their evil doubles and things like that, because those are fun except when they're being used to add more bodies to the heap *coughCountdowncoughSearchForRayPalmercough*, and it's not like that isn't totally what KH is all about anyway." So I started writing it. And, because it's me, everyone does a lot of talking to each other, because I find that fun and interesting. And those 6000 words? I outlined this beforehand, and they're the first four sections. Out of nine.

I am my own worst enemy. But! It's fun to write and I think it'll be fun to read, a nice old-fashioned romp (okay, except with angst, because...that's how it happened) with Sora, Riku, two Kairis, and Organization XIII I-VI. And those are just the good guys.
cygna_hime: (Default)
Give me two characters from different fandoms you know I'm familiar with, and I'll give you a dialog happening between the two of them. Without justifying how the crossover would work, how their worlds clashed, or how they could even meet each other. Just a silly crossover conversation with no backstory, for fun.

There probably will be backstory, though, because I am I.

So, by extremely-misogynistic-and-also-misandristic-on-the-side-gender-roles definitions, I'm androgynous. You know, almost like a real person. *mildly pissed* Seriously, this is a list of "stereotypical football jock and head cheerleader traits". How can anyone take this seriously?
