I did not participate in the [livejournal.com profile] yuletide challenge this year, because I would have failed to follow through and been barred from participating again.

Too Young, Too Old: Narnia, Edmund/Caspian on the Dawn Treader. It does very good things with the way Edmund feels both older and younger than Caspian.

Faith: Narnia, Uncle Andrew at the end of his life. Sweet, with an authentically Lewisian flavor.

And Indeed There Will Be Time: Narnia, post-Last Battle. It was good enough to make me cry, but not in a bad way, in a good way. (This challenge always produces at least one.)

While you're at it, just read all the Narnia stories. They're good, and there are a lot of them, possibly mourning the fact that Narnia won't be rare (under 500 stories) by next year.

The Phantom's Menace: The Dead Boy Detectives, aka the Sandman spinoff now with even more dead British schoolboys! Funny and sweet, reads very much like an episode.

The Fall of the House of Achcroft: Lord Peter Wimsey does a highly characteristic take-off on Edgar Allan Poe; what more could you ask for?

A Donne Deal: More Lord Peter, now with a wondrous game of quote-the-poet.

There are several other Lord Peter, too. I recommend them.

Witch: An alternative, rather dark take on several fairy tales, something of which I am rather fond. Deep, too.

The Tale of the Laughing Forest: I do love slashy fairy tales, though I don't seem to write them much. And this is excellently amusing.

In the Depth of Winter: Secret Garden. Sweetly angsty, with fluff at the end, and feeds my OT3 tendencies, though that may not be to everyone's taste.

what we can never say: Achilles and Patroclus. This makes it very clear that no, the Greeks are not a gentle people; they are a musical people.

Murder Among Friends: A good Nero Wolfe pastiche takes a lot of beating, especially when there are no Agatha Christie fic going.

Easily as a Yawn: Robin McKinley's Damar, which is quite convenient for me. Corlath learning to swing his swordbelt on.

Refracted: Lovely Runaways AU thing, and Karolina/Nico, which is my particular passion.

A Path Unvaried: Sandman, Prez Rickard and the Endless in his life. I'm a sucker for these types of story.

Aftersting: Spiderman movie, rather fluffy with a hint of sadness.

Of Valor: Tamora Pierce, the beginning of the next girl pages, with some very good expanded canon characters.

Relatives are coming later today, so I'll post about presents this evening.

The Lord Peter story I received was just excellent! I can't wait to find out the author - I've just gotten the best stories for Yuletide, it seems
