Fun with bellydance!

Last night, we did indeed go to the belly jam. On the spur of the moment (and the post indicating total social withdrawal and insanity), I brought
stormflare along.
It was fun. It was on the second floor of a community-center-type place, very small (or maybe just felt that way considering the number of people), and I don't know what the neighbors thought of us. There were a lot of vendors, selling really really cool outfits, jewelry, music, and everything else. There was a sword, but we didn't buy it. *pouts*
Did you know there's such a thing as Goth bellydance? True. As far as I can tell from the performances, it basically consists of wearing black and fishnet, and dancing to heavy metal. I'm unsure of its true Goth nature, because it involves far too much energy. It's not really harder than any other bellydancing. One of the things that really impressed me was a woman who managed to dance in 9-8 time, i.e. nine beats to the measure and fast. Don't know how she did it.
The performances were incredible. Some of those women had perfect ribcage isolation. It looks really weird when only the person's chest is moving. Really weird. The music was also hugely loud. It was like a rock concert, only more interesting, smaller, with cooler performers, and with different music.
There was some open floor dancing, but we had to leave before I really wanted to. As it was, we didn't get home until midnight. After which I slept until 9, and am therefore none the worse.
I don't know what you thought of it,
stormflare, but I thought it was incredibly cool. Also, you and Goth bellydance? Meant to be.
I still can't believe your mom was concerned about that outfit. She had absolutely no idea where we were going, did she?

Date: 2005-07-10 08:59 am (UTC)I did think it was cool. It appeals to me, for various complicated reasons. Maybe I'll get my gym to move classes late on wednesdays... (or try to, rather) or find some other place that offers them in the area.
