Con post...of sorts
Aug. 2nd, 2005 09:33 pmPosting from Columbia, MO, the National Latin Convention.
Certamen round 1 (NJ-Fla.-Mass.): Massachusetts: 125, Florida: 65, New Jersey: 65. Not bad for a bunch of competition virgins.
Attended a seminar on Dobby and Gollum: Ancient Slavery in the Modern Imagination, or words to that effect. I can be more detailed later. Suffice to say, it provided food for thought.
They don't let us go to sleep until after midnight. Want to keep us busy. Stupid ****. I'm being forced to conform. And after I woke up shivering in the dorm at 5:15 too!
The dorms are nice. Cold, and a bit clinical, but nice. I'm enoying myself.
The UMo campus is huge, Very widely spaced--it's a ten-minute walk to anywhere. I have a blister on my ankle where the sandal strap was rubbing, and black lines on my feet from the straps of my flipflops. I kid you not. It's also brutally hot. Dry, though. I've been coping okay. No sunburn yet, plenty of water, etc. etc.
Currently using one of the computers in one of the common-room-oid-products. Am tired of telling people that no, the computer opposite me does not work. Am considering making a sign.
Actually, I'm just plain tired. And there are still two hours to go. I'll try to write Regulus!fic during the State Fellowship job (I kid you not!) we have to attend to keep us out of trouble. They don't feed us, either. Pout.
My hormones have kicked in as expected. I have a tube of chocolates in my bag, though, so I'm okay. Also, I was prepared for this. One of the first lessons I learned as a woman was that my body was out to get me.
Okay, leaving the computer for some other desperate geek. 'Night y'alls!
