Harlequinade
Dec. 30th, 2004 05:26 pmJust went used-bookstore trawling, and got ahold of some nice Christies. Read The Mysterious Mr. Quin, and oh oh oh oh my gods. It's just so beautiful, not just mystery but thriller and supernatural and so perfect I can't begin to describe. Read it. Everyone out there, especially
butterflydrming, because if I know you at all you'll love it. So so so deep. And, of course, excellent mystery.
I have a deep, deep urge to quit trying to make up an inter-CLAMP crossover and mix this with X instead. They would mesh so well, especially the end of the book, and the dark beauty like velvet without jewels. If I can summon even half the skill at dark fantasy, I'll do it. Even failure will be better than never seeing it done.
Yes, I do write crossovers for my pleasure and only my pleasure. No one else reads them! (Although I happen to know that someone for whom I have the utmost respect *did*, in fact, read the Xville story and didn't review, so that I would never have known she'd seen it if it hadn't come up in a chatroom months later. But that's another story.) But still, it could be so beautiful.
There is something enticing about darkness.
I see a lad that loves me--and I see a lad that leaves me,
And a third lad, a Shadow Lad, and he's the lad that grieves me.
