Oh! Right! I wrote a story (yes, it's FFXII again), about Dr. Cid: Empty Nest. Be forewarned: it contains spoilers through Archades, fairly critical ones, so tread lightly in the dragon's lair.

I love Dr. Cid, as is only appropriate for his future stepdaughter. (My mother, delighted at finding a mad scientist character well within her age range [people under twenty-five she just feels motherly about], is convinced that the love of a good woman can accomplish all kinds of wonderful new-leaf-turning. At any rate, she expresses herself as quite willing to experiment.) He is craaaaazy, and science-y, and has good dialogue, and...yeah. But he doesn't wear his safety goggles. This explains much.

I need to make new icons.

I refer to it as an OTe, which is a number between two and three. Because Cid makes me break out the math symbols in an effort to describe it accurately.

...I'm kind of scared to ask, but there's an AU in my head in which he invents space travel after Vayne conquers the world, for something to do. He's a crazy, brilliant man. (I've actually used OTpi, so OTe is actually marginally more sane.)

I will, once I've rewatched the relevant cutscenes enough to have some confidence I'll get their voices right. You notice how my stories so far have no dialogue? There's a reason for that. (I love writing "What if...?" AUs, just because it's an excuse to make the wackiest things sound logical.)

I'm replaying the game right now just to rewatch the dialogues and cut-scenes in real life. (And to get the damn Zodaic spear, dag nabbit. How was I supposed to know I wasn't supposed to get that damn treasure chest outside of Old Dalan's?!) And yeah, the dialogue of FFXII is beautiful but so difficult to get right. So.

And I don't even TRY to make them logical. You are far mroe concientious than I am there. XD

Yeah, I'm doing the same thing (including the Zodiac Spear *flails*), and I also have to thank you for semi-unintentionally pointing me towards the cutscenes on YouTube. I was trying to save in a new slot before each scene, but I was running out of slots. I love the dialogue, but writing it is a pain.

No, see, what's hysterical is when you mix logic with crack, as in "Vayne is turned into a vampire, which causes a problem, as he can't invade a country where he hasn't been invited." It's a very popular phenomenon in some fandoms (especially the Fandom With a Weird Penguin Fixation, the only place I've ever seen an AU in which the main characters are penguins.)

You-tube cut-scenes are love and even better than just using scripts from Gamefaqs (though the scripts are helpful as well when you're trying to see what people's dialogues look like in text.) Trying to write dialogue for Larsa or Vayne or Ashe or any of the royals (AL-CID MARGRACE!) is a pain in the fecking butt, no matter what. Those four drive me crazy! ::tears at hair::

All the nobility are evil, even the non-evil ones. The only minor bright spot is Balthier: all you have to do is append "he drawled" to the line, and if it doesn't fit, change the line. Everyone else is all...ARGH! And how do you convey a slight accent in text?! Al-Cid, Ondore, I hate you both despite previous protestations to the contrary. *joins in hair-tearing*

That was Stargate: Atlantis, where the fandom is, overall, spectacularly intelligent, the mad scientists are actually on the good side for once, and the fic attains new levels of crazy.

AL-CID IS THE DEVIL HIMSELF TO WRITE. At least Hot Old Man Ondore talks normal! I've never written Al-Cid and, thanks to that funky way of talking he has, I probably never will.
